Project Team Size
The percent of project team members who hold direct management or supervisory responsibilities, generally called the “sponsor” is key. As the sponsor moves up the organizational chain, his or her role should grow (it is referred to as a “Sponsor Advisory Council”). If the project team is too large, the project may wit unsuitable oversight from the sponsor.
However, too small of a team, with a responsible sponsor who lacks effective supervisory experience, may be able to avoid a black eye in the project’s effects on the sponsor.
Project team composition
The composition of a team is contingent on the project’s requirements and the desired project outcomes. Normally, project team members represent the skill sets to be utilized to fit specific work to the team. The optimal team composition will also include the principal stakeholders. These groups include sponsors, advisory councils, and the such. However, some projects may require ” unfamiliarity” of these members.
Project team size and composition
Similar to the principle of Thriving on sized teams, the optimal size for a team (and for its composition) is dictated by the project’s outcomes. In some cases, the desired implementation may be met even with a small team (more than one person…but the process for work allocation and team-based communication, of course, will already involve a “resource-based” method). So in other cases, the team is too large for its proposed outcomes.
In these cases, it is best to structure the project to “see it through”. This goal will be supported by both the actual size and composition of the project team…as well as by the desired outcomes.

The project selection process, as many would attest, is typically one of the most crucial steps in a successful project. As such, the trouble is that many project managers have never been able to determine what makes a truly successful project. While there is a core capability in project selection, others can be just as important. Because of these, we will focus on these two areas in this article.
The project selection is also a key step in the process, which is why it must be evaluated. Whereas the solution to the problem may be known (or at least suspected), the information available about the “successful” project selection is imperfect. The project team should be an objective blank canvas…largely with only the team’s information as a representation of the success..
Project Evaluation Criteria
The evaluation criteria will vary significantly among prospective projects. Key criteria to consider include the first two (out of six) questionnaire items.
